Music x Museums (2022-3)

Music x Museums is a series of concerts conducted by Oliver Zeffman in London’s great institutions, filmed by Fly On The Wall and released on Apple Music. It comprises Live at the British Library (2022) and Live at the Science Museum (2023).

Live at the British Library, filmed by Fly On The Wall in 2022, is an evening of Beethoven in the Library’s great atrium, among more than eighty million books and the composer’s own manuscripts. Conducted by Oliver Zeffman, it pairs two works of 1808 held in the Library’s collection — the ‘Pastoral’ Symphony and the Choral Fantasy — with pianist Peter Donohoe, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, the Bach Choir and vocal soloists. The concert grew out of the Library’s exhibition ‘Beethoven: Idealist, Innovator, Icon’.

Live at the Science Museum, filmed by Fly On The Wall in 2023, centres on a new work by the composer William Marsey, Why Do We Grieve, written in response to the museum’s exhibition on Stephen Hawking and his investigations into time and space. Conducted by Oliver Zeffman and performed by the Philharmonia Orchestra among the museum’s galleries, the film sets Marsey’s score against the instruments of scientific discovery.
