The Unanswered Question (2021)

A film of Charles Ives’s The Unanswered Question, made as the world emerged from the pandemic of 2020. Ives’s score sets three groups in dialogue — a solo trumpet, strings and distant winds — and, with the players still apart, the three were filmed in London, Berlin and Caracas and drawn together: trumpeter Simon Höfele, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Oliver Zeffman. Filmed by Fly On The Wall, with support from the Genesis Foundation, the Fuerle Collection and Platoon.
